As proclaimed by NASA, June, July, August and now September 2023 have each been the hottest months in Earth’s recorded history. Regarding September, one breathless Climatologist tweeted: “This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas,” climate scientist Zeke Hausfather said on X, formerly known as Twitter. A BBC News story called Warmest September on record as 'gobsmacking' data shocks scientists jumped in with a graph of so-called reanalysed (computer model adjustment) global temperatures: Actual temperature records don’t gradually rise in virtual lock-step with CO2 increase. Vancouver’s September history demonstrates warmth (similar to recent norms) in the forties, dropping lower in the fifties through seventies, and then getting warmer again from the eighties onward. 2023 was the 28th hottest September in Vancouver: In BC, hot summer weather due to Climate Change is blamed for the worst wildfire season on record (by area burned). So it must be that temperatures since June across the province have been at record highs, adding our share to global boiling (so described by the UN Secretary General). Yet, a diverse range of Environment Canada airport locations show that only 3 places (Tofino, Port Hardy & Fort Nelson) had record 2023 monthly temperatures … and only for August, after the bigger fires had been established for some time: 50% of these records occurred in roughly the first 40 years of measurements (1982 and earlier) and 50% in the last 40 years. 2023 is tied (at 3 record months) with 1950, behind 1958 (7), 1967 (6), 2021 (6) and 2015 (5).
There’s no doubt that 2023 was a warm summer in BC, but it seems gobsmackingly bananas that 1958 continues to be the reigning BC seasonal heat champion. As far as September is concerned, impact from the purported global-climate-loogie simply did not reach local fruition.
